PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Friday issued notices to the federal and provincial governments, along with other relevant authorities, seeking their response in four petitions filed for the recovery of missing persons, while referring one writ petition to the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances.

A single-member bench comprising Chief Justice SM Attique Shah heard five petitions seeking the recovery of missing persons. At the outset of the hearing, lawyers representing the missing persons, the additional attorney general, additional advocate general and other officials appeared before the court.

Counsel for the petitioners informed the court that they had approached the high court for the recovery of their clients, who had been missing for some time, adding that it was not known which agency had taken them into custody.

After hearing arguments, the court referred one petition to the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances and issued notices to the federal and provincial governments as well as other relevant institutions in the remaining four petitions, seeking their replies. Later, the hearing was adjourned.
