ABBOTTABAD: Traders staged a protest on Friday after the district administration damaged the tyres of 13 vehicles parked in the main bazaar during an operation here.

According to eyewitnesses and affected shopkeepers, officials of the district administration, accompanied by local police, allegedly punctured the tyres of several vehicles parked in front of shops.

Traders stated that they had parked vehicles outside their businesses and had gone to offer Juma prayers when the incident occurred. They argued that the administration neither issued warnings nor imposed fines or used vehicle lifters to impound the cars, which, they argued, would have been a lawful course of action.

In reaction, traders and citizens gathered and blocked the main bazaar and city’s central chowk for nearly two hours. They chanted slogans against the district administration and local police.

All Traders Federation leader Sardar Shah Nawaz said that a written complaint had been lodged at the City Police Station against the alleged unlawful act of the assistant commissioner.
