PESHAWAR: The families of ex-servicemen who joined the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and were martyred in terrorist attacks over the past several years have asked the authorities to include them in the full Shaheed Package.
“My father, Nizar Ali Khan, was an ex-serviceman who, after retiring from the Pakistan Army, joined the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police in 2009 and served for 16 years. He lost his life on March 16 last year during a sniper attack while performing his duty,” said Sajid Ali from Nisatta in Charsadda.
He said his father has been officially recognised as a police martyr by the KP government.
“However, the police department has not recruited any of us as ASI [Assistant Sub-Inspector] under the package, while this facility is being provided to the families of other martyrs of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police.
In this way, we are being treated with clear discrimination, although my father also sacrificed his life while on duty in the same police force,” he added.
Sajid said more than 200 ex-servicemen in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have been martyred in the war against terrorism.
He added that all these martyrs made equal sacrifices in the defence of the country and the nation, but unfortunately, the families of ex-servicemen martyrs often do not receive the rights and facilities that are given to the families of other police martyrs.
The son of the martyred cop said it is the responsibility of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the police department to provide employment to the families of martyrs.
