LAHORE : Strict security arrangements and enforcement actions by police continued on the second day of the Basant festival in the provincial capital.
According to a spokesperson for Lahore Police, during the last 24 hours, 27 cases were registered for violations of the Kite Flying Act across the provincial capital.
Police arrested 31 suspects and recovered 980 unapproved kites and 146 spools from their possession. In addition, nine individuals involved in aerial firing and display of weapons were taken into custody, while 13 people were arrested for drug use.
The spokesperson said that 60 motorcyclists were also arrested during recent operations for not installing safety rods, aimed at ensuring public safety during Basant.
CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana directed supervisory officers to ensure strict enforcement of the Kite Flying Act. He said the writ of the state would be upheld in all circumstances and that indiscriminate action would be taken against those involved in illegal kite flying.
The CCPO added that a zero-tolerance policy would be adopted against aerial firing, display of weapons, provocation, and drug peddling. He instructed officers to ensure full implementation of the government’s code of conduct for a safe Basant. He further said that rooftops and Basant-related activities would continue to be monitored through modern technology and human intelligence. Supply of illegal glass-coated string foiled Civil Lines Police foiled an attempt to supply illegal glass-coated kite string and arrested two suspects.
According to a police spokesperson, the suspects, identified as Hammad and Haroon, were arrested from Kacha Lawrence Road during an operation.
Police recovered 130 ready-made spools of glass-coated string along with cartons from their possession and registered a case against them. During interrogation, the suspects admitted to manufacturing glass-coated string and selling it in various areas of Lahore, police said.
