The Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) staged protest demonstrations across Sindh on Friday after congregational prayers, opposing the Pakistan government’s participation in the Peace Board on Palestine initiated by US President Donald Trump.
Demonstrations were held in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah and several other cities where protesters organised rallies and chanted slogans against the government’s decision while expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Participants carried banners and placards bearing slogans in support of Palestine and condemning US policies.
In Karachi, the MWM organised protests outside various mosques, while a major demonstration was held outside the Khoja Jamat Mosque. Addressing the protesters, MWM leader Hayat Abbas Najafi stated that Trump’s so-called Peace Board was, in fact, a conspiracy aimed at weakening the legitimate struggle of the oppressed Palestinian people and providing protection to Israeli aggression.
He said Gaza had effectively been turned into an open-air prison, where Palestinians were being subjected to oppression, genocide and destruction, adding that resistance against such brutality was a legitimate right.
He said the Israeli leadership, particularly Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, did not recognise international laws and continued aggressive actions against various countries in the region. He stated that the Peace Board, which had been presented under the banner of peace, was actually an attempt to disarm the Palestinians and strip them of their right to freedom.
MWM leaders criticised the Pakistani government for joining the initiative without taking Parliament or the public into confidence, warning that such a move jeopardised Pakistan’s credibility and national dignity.
They emphasised that Pakistan was an ideological state and should not be part of any forum that hurt the sentiments of the Muslim Ummah. The protesters demanded that the government immediately withdraw from the initiative and maintain Pakistan’s historical and principled stance on the Palestinian issue. They also called for a public referendum, the convening of a joint session of Parliament, a detailed debate on the decision, and the passage of a resolution rejecting the Peace Board.
The speakers stressed that the issue transcended party politics and concerned Pakistan, its people, Islam, national honour and collective conscience. They warned that if the government failed to respect the public sentiment, the protest movement would be expanded. Allama Mubashir Hassan, Nasir Al-Husseini, Farrukh Shirazi, Naushad Ali, Hassan Zaidi and Yawar Abbas were present at the demonstration.
