PESHAWAR: Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah on Friday reviewed progress on key initiatives of the Higher Education Department (HED) under the Good Governance Roadmap during a meeting attended by the additional chief secretary and senior HED officials.
The meeting discussed major reforms, including the outsourcing of low-performing colleges, digitization of services, faculty capacity building, and employability-oriented initiatives.The participants were informed that the HED is digitizing core student services. A centralized online admissions system is already operational, while integration of cashless payment mechanisms is underway to improve transparency and access.
It was further briefed that teacher capacity building has been accelerated with the launch of a STEM certification programme, under which the training of 100 teachers is currently in progress to strengthen science and technology education.
To enhance graduate employability, the department is strengthening linkages with the job market through placement support and career exposure initiatives at leading universities, offering both national and international opportunities. The meeting was also told that the planning is underway to convert three HED colleges into Collegesof Applied Sciences, with at least one college expected to be completed.
