ALPURI: The residents of Alpurai are living under a constant threat as landslides on College Road have become increasingly dangerous, with stones frequently falling from the hills above.

The residents said that the district administration and relevant authorities have remained silent despite repeated warnings, leaving pedestrians to cross the hazardous road at their own risk.

College Road in Alpuri is a key thoroughfare, connecting the Government Degree College, Girls College, Passport Office, Zakat Office, Election Commission office, Investigation and Police Headquarters, over a dozen private hospitals, and multiple other important offices. Despite its significance, no permanent measures have been taken to mitigate the landslide risk.

The residents recalled that during recent heavy rains, the road had completely collapsed due to severe landslides and was only temporarily cleared by a local TMA tractor. They warn that a deep fissure has developed mid-hill, which could break off at any time, posing serious threats to the main road, nearby buildings, and private hospitals.

Local people have repeatedly submitted written complaints and petitions to the authorities, but no effective action has been taken. Students, patients, women and the elderly continue to face extreme difficulty using this road, which serves thousands of daily commuters.
