MANSEHRA: Residents of Agror and Tanawal areas of Oghi tehsil took to the streets on Thursday, demanding the immediate restoration of electricity, which they said had remained suspended since the recent snowfall.
The charged protesters marched through various roads of the city and later blocked the Oghi - Mansehra road, causing severe inconvenience to inter-district and local commuters. They raised slogans against Wapda, holding it responsible for failing to restore electricity even five days after what they described as the heaviest snowfall in a decade.
“Most parts of Agror and Tanawal are still without electricity. Despite repeated requests, Wapda has failed to clear and repair the damaged lines in such harsh weather conditions,” said Asif Shahzad, a local general councillor.
He said the electricity supply infrastructure destroyed during the snowfall had not yet been rehabilitated, leaving residents to suffer. Another resident, Ayaz Adil, said the protest would continue until electricity was fully restored in the affected areas.
The protesters were later dispersed peacefully after the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Oghi Circle, along with police personnel, arrived at the scene and held talks with them. A Wapda official told reporters that line staff were actively engaged in rehabilitation work of the affected electricity infrastructure in Mansehra and the rest of the Hazara Division.Meanwhile, civic agencies across the upper parts of Hazara Division remained busy clearing blocked roads and repairing other infrastructure damaged during the recent snowfall.
