LAHORE:Punjab Food Director General Amjad Hafeez said on Monday that transparent permit system was operational for wheat transportation and wheat had been transported to other provinces from Punjab.
According to a handout issued here he said under this system a major share had been provided to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.He said that overall estimate of inter-provincial transportation of wheat from Punjab was between 1.4 and 1.5 million metric tons.
He stated that more than 700,000 metric tons of wheat had been supplied to Islamabad from Punjab.Amjad Hafeez said, "Punjab continues to play a key role in meeting the country’s food requirements.
"He further said that there was complete permission for transportation of wheat from one district to another within Punjab and no restriction, quota or administrative hurdle had ever been imposed in this regard.
Amjad Hafeez said, "Wherever a permit system is in place, it serves merely as a facilitative and monitoring mechanism aimed at compiling accurate transportation data, discouraging hoarding and supporting fact-based policy-making.
"All claims regarding restrictions on wheat transportation were contrary to facts and completely baseless, having no connection with ground realities or the provincial supply chain, he added.He mentioned that the Punjab government was utilizing all available resources to ensure national food security and price stability.
