QUETTA: An unusual situation has emerged along the Pakistan-Iran border due to the ongoing tense conditions in Iran, leading to heightened security measures and the complete suspension of trade and travel activities in the border areas.
Uncertainty in Iran has resulted in extraordinary circumstances at the Pak-Iran border, prompting authorities to tighten security in adjacent regions. As a result, cross-border commercial and passenger movement has been stopped. Sources in the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said that a total of 134 Pakistani nationals have returned home over the past two days through Border Pillar No. 250, located near Gwadar. Among those who returned are 88 students who had been residing in Iran. The sources added that due to the prevailing uncertainty in Iran, general movement across the Pak-Iran border remains suspended. However, the phased and monitored repatriation of Pakistani nationals is continuing as an exception. The FIA, in coordination with other relevant authorities, is ensuring the orderly evacuation of Pakistani citizens from Iranian areas. Security officials said that in view of the tense situation in Iran, additional security measures have been enforced in border regions to prevent any untoward incidents. Despite the border closure, the return of Pakistani nationals is being prioritized on humanitarian grounds. According to officials, there is little likelihood of the resumption of trade and travel activities at the Pak-Iran border until the situation in Iran improves. Returning citizens are being screened and processed upon arrival before being sent to their respective districts.
