ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday reserved its decision in a case concerning students not allowed to appear for the CSS exams at the Lahore centre.
While addressing the Assistant Attorney General, Justice Muhammad Asif remarked, “These are all children; give them relief. You should open your heart. The government and the state are like mothers; they should take care of the students, educate the children, and provide facilities.”
Justice Asif reserved his decision after hearing arguments on the petition filed by Advocate Munir Ahmed.
The lawyer argued that hundreds of students were deprived of the exam at the Lahore centre, adding, “The state is like a mother; it does not happen that the state says in a press release that it will take action against them.”
The Assistant Attorney General stated that students had been told to arrive 50 minutes before the exam, and if they failed to do so, it was their own mistake. He added that they could not come directly to the high court without exhausting the two prior forums. Justice Asif responded, “If they had gone to the other forums and then came to the court, their time would have been wasted. These are all children; give them relief. You should be kind. The government and the state are like mothers. Students should be taken care of. Educate and facilitate the children.”
Lawyer Munir Ahmed explained that out of a total of 17,000 students, 4,000 were to appear for the exam from the Lahore centre. The Federal Public Service Commission’s press release had stated that students should arrive 50 minutes before the exam. However, the gate was closed 50 minutes before the exam, and the students missed their lifetime chance. The court inquired whether the gate could be closed before the exam began.
The court then reserved its decision and directed the petitioner’s lawyer to submit relevant judgments on the matter for review.
