RAHIM YAR KHAN: A major breakthrough was achieved during an intelligence-based targeted operation in the Kacha area of Rahim Yar Khan where a notorious dacoit carrying a government-announced bounty of Rs1 crore, Meera Lathani, surrendered along with his two accomplices.

According to police sources, the operation was conducted under the leadership of District Police Officer (DPO) Irfan Ali Samo, as part of ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal networks operating in the riverine (Kacha) belt.

The surrendering accomplices have been identified as Fida alias Rathore and Zulfi Lathani. Police officials said the Punjab government had declared a reward of Rs1 crore for the arrest of Meera Lathani due to his involvement in multiple heinous crimes including robbery, dacoity, and attacks on law enforcement personnel.

Speaking on the occasion, Irfan said that individuals who voluntarily surrendered their weapons and chose the path of peace would be given a fair opportunity to reform and live a respectable life, while legal proceedings against them would continue in accordance with the law.

He emphasized that those who challenged the writ of the state would be dealt with strictly. “The police will continue intelligence-based targeted operations against criminals, enemies of public life and property, and those disrupting peace in the Kacha area,” he added.

Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has congratulated the DPO and his team on their excellent performance, effective intelligence coordination, and successful strategy, terming the surrender a significant achievement in restoring peace and security in the region.
