Law on preventing incidents of children falling into manholes soon

LAHORE:The Punjab government was preparing strict legislation to prevent children from falling into manholes.

In this regard, a meeting was held here on Thursday chaired by Punjab Minister for Housing Bilal Yasin in which Secretary Housing Noor-ul-Amin Mengal briefed the participants on the department’s annual performance and development plans for the new year. He also informed the meeting about preparations for strict legislation in Punjab to prevent incidents of children falling into manholes and other related accidents.

Recommendations were reviewed regarding ensuring survey and monitoring at the tehsil level within 15 days by deputy commissioners of all districts.Punjab Minister for Housing Bilal Yasin stated that 'Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar' was the best scheme in the country’s history, under which 125,000 families benefited from interest-free loans during the past year. He said that 60,000 houses have been completed, 65,000 are under construction, and within two months the number of completed houses will exceed 100,000.

He further stated that the formation of Wasa offices has been completed in all districts of Punjab, and these will be equipped with machinery. The provincial minister added that under the Punjab Development Plan, drainage systems of all districts will be made fully functional.

For a significant improvement in the beautification of cities, funds will soon be provided to Horticulture Authorities in 21 districts. The meeting was also attended by the DG of Wasa Punjab, DG PHA, MD Wasa Lahore and other officers.
