LAHORE : Smart Safe Cities will be established in 98 tehsils of the province and in this regard, a formal agreement was signed at the Central Police Office on Wednesday.
According to a spokesperson from the Safe Cities Authority, the agreement was signed by Brig Azmat Shabbir, Managing Director of the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC), and M Ahsan Yunus, Managing Director of Punjab Safe Cities Authority. Under the terms of the agreement, NRTC will set up Smart Safe Cities in the 98 tehsils of Punjab by December 31, 2026.
Man arrested for raping girl
Gulberg police have arrested a man accused of molesting a 12-year-old girl after luring her to his residence in Model Colony.
According to a police spokesperson, the suspect, identified as Qasim Hussain, allegedly enticed the victim while she was out purchasing household items from a local market. He took her to his home in Model Colony, where he committed indecent acts in a room. The girl raised an alarm, prompting the suspect to flee the scene, leaving her behind. Following the incident, a case was registered, and police traced and apprehended Qasim Hussain from Model Colony.
Man killed in domestic fire
A 48-year-old man was killed in a domestic fire that broke out in the early hours of Wednesday in Ichhra area.
According to Rescue 1122, the fire was reported at around 3:07am near Chowk Baba Azam in Ichhra, where a house had caught fire. The blaze engulfed a room of the house, resulting in the death of a resident identified as Usman, son of Zubair. He suffered severe burn injuries and died on the spot before he could be shifted to a hospital. Family members told rescuers that Usman had been suffering from mental health issues.
