QUETTA/LAHORE: Vice Chairman of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP), Mama Qadeer Baloch, passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged illness.

The death was confirmed in a statement issued by Voice for Baloch Missing Persons. According to the statement, Mama Qadeer Baloch had been seriously ill for several days and was under treatment at a private hospital in Quetta, where he breathed his last.

His funeral prayer and burial will be held in Surab.

Mama Qadeer Baloch was widely regarded as a strong and persistent voice on the issue of missing persons in Balochistan. He gained national and international attention for leading a historic long march on foot from Quetta to Islamabad to highlight the plight of enforced disappearances.

Meanwhile, HRCP expressed deep sorrow at the passing away of human rights defender Mama Abdul Qadeer, who, after the abduction and killing of his son in 2009, initiated a campaign against enforced disappearances.

The founder of Voice for Baloch Missing Persons, it was Mama who led a historic long march from Quetta to Islamabad in 2013 to demand accountability for enforced disappearances.

His legacy will endure in the countless families he stood beside.” We reiterate that the state must take concerted action to restore the rights for which Mama spent decades campaigning,” the statement said.
