PHC grants last chance to federal govt, others to submit replies
PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday directed the federal government, Ministry of Interior Affairs and immigration authorities to submit their replies as a last opportunity on a petition filed for removal of the name of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister Dr Amjad Ali from the Passport Control List and Provisional National Identification List.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Muhammad Faheem Wali heard the case. The petitioner was represented by his counsel Bashir Khan Wazir while Assistant Attorney General Taimur Khan appeared on behalf of the federal government.
Justice Syed Arshad Ali remarked that despite issuing directions three times, the federal government and other departments had failed to submit their responses, adding that this was the final opportunity and all parties must file their replies.
Counsel for the petitioner informed the court that his client was the housing minister, who intended to travel abroad to procure equipment for various projects, but he was stopped from traveling because his name was placed on the PCL and PNIL.
The AAG told the court that the petitioner had been granted permission to travel once but did not do so, and that he was not offloaded at the airport. He requested one week’s time to submit a formal reply. Justice Syed Arshad Ali questioned why no reply had been filed so far despite repeated orders and granted a final opportunity, directing all parties to submit their responses.
