PESHAWAR: The Accountability Court on Tuesday dismissed the bail application filed by the accused arrested in connection with the Upper Kohistan scandal. Accountability Judge Hameed Mughal heard the bail plea.

The defence counsel for the accused informed the court that his client was not the managing director of the construction company and his signature was not on the bank cheques. The lawyer argued that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had been conducting an inquiry for six months but had not yet filed a reference against the accused, and therefore, he should be released on bail.

However, the NAB special prosecutor told the court that the entity was a firm, not a company, and the accused had a partnership with his brothers and other relatives. He pleaded that under the agreement and partnership, the accused operated a joint bank account, and the relevant transactions were made into this joint account. The prosecution further asserted that the accused used to operate the bank account and that his signatures were present on the bank cheques. After hearing all arguments, the court rejected the bail application.
