Security of Tarbela extension project workers reviewed

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police on Thursday beefed up security for Chinese nationals working on the Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project in Haripur district.

“The deputy commissioner and I have been reviewing the security of energy projects on the instructions of Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, and additional personnel have been deployed for the security of Chinese nationals,” District Police Officer Shafiullah Khan Gandapur told reporters.

Deputy Commissioner Haripur Mohammad Waseem and the DPO visited the Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project at Ghazi and reviewed the security arrangements.They met Chinese engineers and workers engaged in the construction of the powerhouse and inspected their security measures.

Gandapur said the police were vigilant and ensuring foolproof security for foreigners working on energy projects in Hazara division, including the Tarbela 5th Extension Hydropower Project.“We have provided extra security to Chinese engineers and workers as their safety is of paramount importance to us,” he added.The DPO said Chinese staff had also been directed to strictly follow the government’s security protocols.
