Travel, terrain and local stories

Travel and exploration have increasingly become a way of reconnecting with places, people and stories that often remain overlooked. Across Pakistan, from mountain valleys and deserts to coastlines and rural communities, creators and adventurers have been documenting the country’s changing cultural landscape through a more immersive lens. Digital travel series and cinematic storytelling have also gained traction in recent years, offering audiences a closer look at local traditions, remote terrains and the everyday lives of people living far from urban centres.

Against this backdrop, automotive company, BYD (Build Your Dreams), launched ‘The Great Pakistan Adventure’ (GPA), a four-episode cinematic travel series exploring the country’s landscapes, cultures and lesser-known stories through journeys across difficult terrains. The series follows storytellers and adventurers travelling through remote regions using the Shark 6, a plug-in hybrid electric pickup designed for long-distance and off-road travel.

Inspired by the four terrains associated with the vehicle - mud, sand, snow and mountains - the series places its focus on real-world exploration rather than conventional road travel. Throughout the episodes, the pickup is driven through snow-covered routes, desert tracks, rugged coastlines and mountainous areas, testing its endurance and adaptability in challenging environments. Built on a hybrid platform with all-wheel drive, high ground clearance and an extended combined range, the vehicle is shown navigating terrains where access is often difficult.

Speaking about the project, Ayesha Janjua, VP Marketing at BYD Pakistan – Mega Motor Company (MMC), said, “The campaign aimed to highlight communities and experiences that are often unseen, while reflecting the resilience and diversity found across the country.”

GM Marketing Syed Haider Mujtaba described the project saying, “It is a tribute to individuals and communities shaping the country in quieter ways, adding that the series sought to capture adventure in an authentic and cinematic format.”

Directed by filmmaker Zohaib Kazi, the series follows four separate expeditions. Adventurer Abrar Hassan journeys through Hushe Valley in search of the elusive snow leopard, while storyteller Maryam Raja explores Sindh’s traditions and wildlife. Content creator Bilal Hassan travels through Cholistan and Bahawalpur and Nadir Nahdi documents surf culture and coastal communities along Karachi and Balochistan.

The series adds to a growing trend of locally produced travel documentaries that blend adventure with cultural storytelling, while drawing attention to regions and communities that are rarely represented in mainstream narratives.
