PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations Shafiullah Jan condemned refusal to allow family members and lawyers to meet Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan, saying that illegal restriction on such meetings constituted a clear violation of Constitution and court directives.

He said that federal and Punjab governments, which he termed as having come to power through “Form 47,” had crossed all limits of political victimisation. He stated that depriving Imran Khan of his constitutional, legal and fundamental human rights was highly condemnable and deeply regrettable.

Shafiullah Jan further stated that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi had been kept in solitary confinement for more than eight months, describing it as a serious violation of human rights and a blatant breach of Constitution and law.

He said that they had been denied B class prison facilities and that negligence had been shown regarding Imran Khan’s health. The minister said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, Imran Khan’s sisters, and PTI had pursued every constitutional and legal avenue to secure permission for meetings with Imran Khan. However, despite these efforts, the federal and Punjab governments continued to deny such permission.

Shafiullah Jan demanded that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi be immediately transferred to Al-Shifa Eye Hospital, arguing that PIMS Hospital did not have a retina specialist. He said that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had access to his personal doctors and was regularly visited by his party leadership and family members. In contrast, Imran Khan had been denied medical treatment, family meetings and other basic facilities, which he said, was contrary to principles of justice.
