Hub City stands as Balochistan’s largest industrial zone and a powerhouse for both the provincial and national economies. Yet, beneath this economic success lies a severe civic failure: the total absence of an efficient public transportation system. With inflation soaring, residents can no longer bear the extortionate fares of private transport. Commuters are forced to rely on motorcycles or company vans, dodging hundreds of heavy trucks and tankers daily on the congested route between Hub and Karachi. The provincial government proved change is possible by launching the Green People’s Bus Service in Quetta and Turbat.
This commendable initiative provides affordable, safe and comfortable transport. Hub’s workforce deserves the exact same relief. The gravity of this crisis is best illustrated by a teacher I know. He commutes daily from Gadani to Hub. Because there is no dependable schedule, he is frequently stranded after evening hours, forced to rely on the goodwill of colleagues for a ride home. His hardship is shared by thousands of local workers and students. Public transport is a basic necessity, not a luxury. I urge the authorities to step in immediately, introduce a structured green bus service in Hub and give our citizens the safe, affordable mobility they deserve.
