PPP, IPP announce alliance for GB govt formation

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) on Sunday announced that they had reached an understanding under which the IPP would support the PPP in the government formation process in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Addressing a joint press conference in Gilgit, leaders of the two parties said the decision was taken after a series of meetings and detailed consultations.

They said the IPP would join hands with the PPP in forming the next government in the region. IPP Gilgit-Baltistan President Haji Gulbar Khan said that other matters related to the political arrangement and government formation would be finalised by the central leaderships of both the parties at the federal level.

PPP Gilgit-Baltistan President and chief minister-nominated Amjad Hussain Advocate said the coming together of PPP, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) and IPP on a single platform was a positive development aimed at ensuring the region’s development and resolving public issues.

He expressed the hope that the political alliance would help put Gilgit-Baltistan on the path of progress and prosperity.

Amjad Hussain further said that the formal process of government formation and other related matters would begin on Monday. Secretary General Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and senior PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira were also present during the joint press conference of PPP and IPP.
