ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday issued a final notice to Islamabad’s DIG (Operations), asking him to explain why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him for failing to submit the challan in a protest case involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and workers despite repeated court orders.

During the hearing, ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra questioned the prosecution about the whereabouts of the challan. Special Prosecutor Raja Naveed informed the court that the challan had not yet been received.

Expressing displeasure, the judge remarked that he had repeatedly directed the police to submit the challan and had also issued notices in the matter. He noted that the DIG had previously been summoned, but the challan was still not presented. The judge warned of legal consequences for non-compliance and, during the proceedings, orally observed that strict action could be taken against the DIG. He even directed the court staff to prepare an order regarding punishment.

However, after the order was typed and reviewed, the court ultimately issued a final show-cause notice instead of immediately imposing a sentence.
