Sindh Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro paid glowing tribute to Benazir Bhutto on her 73rd birth anniversary declaring that the PPP remained steadfast in its struggle for constitutional supremacy, parliamentary sovereignty and continuity of democracy in Pakistan.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Khuhro said the PPP had consistently played its democratic role in strengthening democratic institutions and safeguarding the Constitution. He emphasised that all of Pakistan’s challenges could be resolved through the uninterrupted continuation of democratic process.
“Pakistan will become stronger when all institutions function strictly within their constitutional domains and respective spheres of authority,” he said. Khuhro noted that in observance of the sanctity of Muharram-ul-Haram, the PPP commemorated Benazir Bhutto’s 73rd birth anniversary with simplicity across all district headquarters of Sindh. Special Quraan Khawani gatherings and prayer ceremonies were organised throughout the province to honour her memory and services to the nation.
The Sindh PPP chief said that democracy in Pakistan was the result of immense sacrifices rendered by the Bhutto family. He added that the party had remained committed to strengthening the democratic system under the leadership of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir, President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Khuhro said Bhutto laid the foundations for Pakistan’s nuclear programme, whereas, Benazir played a pivotal role in advancing the country’s missile technology programme. These achievements, he said, had significantly strengthened Pakistan’s defence capabilities and national security. He added that the PPP was moving forward under the leadership of Bilawal guided by the vision and mission of his mother.
