Sindh CM directs strict action after car hits 11 people in Karachi

Police say accident occurred at around 9:26pm. Initially, five people were reported injured, but number later rose to 11

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of a traffic accident near Saba Avenue in Defence Housing Authority (DHA), where a speeding vehicle crashed into a gathering, injuring at least 11 people.

The chief minister directed Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Police to submit a detailed report on the incident and ordered authorities to ensure strict action against those responsible.

According to officials, the incident took place near an imambargah in DHA Phase 6, where a vehicle lost control and entered a tent set up for a gathering. Police said the vehicle struck several people before coming to a stop.

A briefing given to the chief minister stated that the vehicle may have gone out of control due to a brake failure. However, police have taken the vehicle into custody and detained the driver along with two others for further investigation.

CCTV footage of the incident has also emerged, showing the vehicle entering the area at high speed. The footage showed the car hitting people inside the roadside setup.

Police officials said the accident occurred at around 9:26pm. Initially, five people were reported injured, but the number later rose to 11.

SSP South Mehzoor Ali confirmed that three people, including the driver, had been taken into custody.

Murad Ali Shah instructed the police to complete a thorough inquiry into the incident and present a full investigation report. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
