ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-affiliated Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly member and Chairman of the AJK Public Accounts Committee Abdul Majid Khan on Sunday announced his decision to join the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) following a meeting with PPP Women Wing Central President and AJK Political Affairs Incharge Faryal Talpur at Zardari House in Islamabad.
During the meeting, Khan formally announced his departure from the PTI and expressed his trust in the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Speaking on the occasion, Khan said Bilawal was the most popular political leader in AJK and described the PPP as the AJK’s most popular political party.
Welcoming Khan into the party ranks, Faryal said the PPP was the only political party in Pakistan founded on the cause of Kashmir. She added that the political legacy of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto continued to serve as a guiding force for efforts aimed at resolving the Kashmir dispute.
She expressed confidence that the PPP would emerge as the representative political force in the next elections to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The meeting was also attended by AJK Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, AJK PPP President Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin, Chaudhry Muhammad Riaz, Mian Abdul Waheed, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Senator Rubina Khalid.
