ICG summer fiesta opens with focus on skills, creativity

Islamabad:Islamabad College for Girls (ICG) has launched its two-week Summer Fiesta 2026, offering students a platform to sharpen their technological, creative and vocational abilities through a variety of skill-based courses and practical workshops.

The initiative is designed to create an engaging learning experience, enabling students to explore new interests, acquire hands-on skills and develop their talents beyond the traditional classroom setting.

Addressing the opening ceremony, education secretary Nadeem Mehboob said the programme would expose students to valuable learning opportunities through a diverse mix of summer courses and interactive workshops. He noted that the fiesta blended education with creativity and enjoyment, encouraging students to learn in a dynamic environment.

He said the activities, interactive sessions and practical exercises would help participants discover new strengths, boost their confidence and refine their skills. Speaking on the occasion, Federal Directorate of Education director general Javed Iqbal Mirza emphasised the importance of education in shaping individuals and driving national progress. He said education equips young people with the knowledge, critical-thinking ability and problem-solving skills needed to navigate future challenges.

Mirza added that workshops and skill-development programmes play a key role in fostering innovation, creativity, teamwork and leadership, while helping students identify their interests and prepare for opportunities in an evolving world.

He said initiatives such as Summer Fiesta provide a supportive environment where students can learn, grow and contribute positively to society. The opening ceremony was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, diplomats, educationists and parents.

The festival features courses ranging from coding, robotics and digital creativity to fashion design, culinary arts, pottery, fabric painting, communication skills and taekwondo. The event also showcased cultural performances, including regional songs and a taekwondo display, while guests toured classrooms and activity stalls, praising students for their creativity, enthusiasm and active participation.
