LAHORE:On the directions of Inspector General of Police (IG) Abdul Kareem, stringent security arrangements were ensured across the province on fifth day of Muharram.
Punjab Police spokesperson said on 5th Muharram, more than 40,000 officers and personnel performed security duties for mourning processions and Majalis across the province. A total of 559 mourning processions and 3,967 Majalis were held across Punjab, while in Lahore, 42 mourning processions were taken out and 420 Majalis were organised. More than 21,000 community volunteers also assisted in the security arrangements of processions and Majalis across the province.
IG Abdul Kareem said security across the province will remain on high alert during Muharram and all resources are being utilised to maintain law and order. He said that implementation of Section 144 is being strictly ensured. The IG said aerial firing, display of weapons, dissemination of hate material, and provocative activities are strictly prohibited.
He added that all activities are being continuously monitored through the cameras of the Safe Cities Authority and district administration. The IG directed that strict implementation of the Loudspeaker Act be ensured and indiscriminate legal action be taken against lawbreaking elements involved in spreading hate material on social media.
