LAHORE : Lahore Police have intensified enforcement of the Tenancy Act as part of comprehensive security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram, arresting 1,468 individuals and registering 739 cases for tenancy law violations across the provincial capital during the current year.
According to the spokesperson for Lahore Police, the crackdown was aimed at preventing criminals from exploiting unregulated accommodation arrangements.
The police have registered 739 cases at various police stations across Lahore over violations of tenancy regulations. Among those arrested, 222 suspects were held in the City Division, 465 in the Sadar Division and 390 in the Iqbal Town Division, while operations in other divisions also continued, he added.
Meanwhile, Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana stated that tenant registration was a key component of the city’s security framework. “Unregistered tenants may provide shelter to criminal elements. Therefore, there will be no compromise on security,” he said.
The Lahore Police were strictly implementing the security SOPs issued by the Home Department for Muharram-ul-Haram, he added.
Under the SOPs, unauthorised persons are not allowed on the rooftops of shops or houses, or on other elevated points along the routes of mourning processions. The storage of bricks, stones and other potentially hazardous materials on the rooftops of buildings situated along procession routes has also been prohibited, he further said.
Kamyana urged landlords and tenants to ensure complete compliance with tenancy regulations and government-issued security directives. He also appealed to the citiz ens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the Police Helpline 15.
Lahore Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order during Muharram and ensuring the safety of mourners through strict enforcement of security measures.
