LAHORE: At least 2,505 individuals included in Fourth Schedule are under close surveillance, Home Secretary informed Chief Secretary during his visit to Home Department.
According to official briefings, Home Department has so far reported more than 16,000 objectionable social media accounts to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for blocking due to content promoting sectarian hatred and public disorder.
As part of preventive measures, movement restrictions have been imposed on 1,418 individuals identified as provocative speakers, while speaking bans have been enforced on 794 others. The 2,505 individuals listed on Fourth Schedule are also being strictly monitored to ensure public safety.
To enhance security measures, Punjab government has established a dedicated Digital Media Cell within Home Department to monitor social media platforms around the clock and respond in real time to sectarian, violent, and hate-related content.
Chief Secretary Punjab visited the facility and reviewed live cyber-patrolling system. He said maintaining peace during Muharram is a collective national responsibility and directed authorities to take immediate legal action against those spreading religious hatred or provocative material online.
Secretary Home Dr Ahmad Javed Qazi briefed Chief Secretary on security and cyber-monitoring plans, stating arrangements have been finalised for 37,868 religious gatherings and 9,412 processions across the province.
More than 125,000 police personnel have been deployed, supported by 61 companies of Pakistan Army and 76 companies of Rangers across various districts.
Dr Qazi said Digital Media Cell is operating 24/7 with a system for real-time reporting and legal action. He urged the public to report any sectarian or inflammatory content through Home Department’s dedicated WhatsApp numbers to help maintain peace during Muharram.
The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and promoting interfaith harmony throughout the province.
