PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday directed the ministries of Defence and Interior to submit replies in a petition seeking the recovery of a citizen who was allegedly forcibly disappeared after his release from Peshawar Central Prison.

PHC Chief Justice SM Attique Shah issued a written order directing the relevant authorities to submit a detailed report at the next hearing.According to the court order, the petitioner stated that his son had previously worked in Saudi Arabia and Qatar and had faced four criminal cases in Pakistan. However, he had either been acquitted or released in all of those cases.

The petitioner informed the court that after being released from prison, his son went missing and was allegedly taken away by unidentified persons in civvies from outside Peshawar Central Prison.

The petition alleged that personnel from law enforcement agencies were involved in taking the person into custody and that his whereabouts remained unknown since the incident.During the proceedings, the court recorded the statement of the missing man’s father and observed that, given the sensitive nature of the matter, responses from both the ministries of Defence and Interior were necessary.

The court also directed the concerned authorities to produce the Call Data Record (CDR) of the missing persons, as well as those of his close relatives, at the next hearing to assist in tracing his whereabouts. The court then adjourned further proceedings until July 6 and ordered the Defence and Interior ministries to submit comprehensive reports regarding the allegations and the status of the missing person.
