Sikh couple killed inside gurdwara in Mardan

MARDAN: A Sikh couple was killed inside a gurdwara located at Babu Mohalla Khawaja Ganj Bazaar in the limits of Hoti Police Station, police officials said on Wednesday.

The sources said that the unidentified accused entered the gurdwara located in a congested locality and opened fire, killing Jagannath, 70, and his wife, who were said to be the caretakers of the gurdwara.

The assailants managed to flee the scene after committing the crime. Rescue 1122 officials shifted the bodies to the District Headquarters Hospital, Mardan.The sources said that a police guard was provided for the security of the gurdwara, but he was not present when the attack took place.

The sources added that CCTV cameras were installed at the gurdwara; however, the digital video recorder was out of order. District Police Officer, Mardan, Masood Ahmed, SSP, investigation, Maria Mustafa and others visited the scene, collected evidence and reviewed various aspects of the incident. Police officials said that an investigation was launched into the incident. Later, the DPO visited the hospital.
