MANSEHRA/ MINGORA: The upper parts of Hazara Division on Wednesday received a fresh spell of monsoon rains, turning the weather pleasant and slightly cold.
The rainfall, which started in the early hours of the day in Mansehra, Torghar and other parts of the division, continued intermittently throughout the day.Rainwater inundated streets and roads in Mansehra city and its suburbs due to the choked drains and sewerage lines along Abbottabad Road and the Karakoram Highway.
The Indus, Siran and Kunhar rivers, as well as streams across Mansehra district, swelled significantly, prompting Rescue 1122 to issue warnings to the public against going near rivers, streams and other waterways.
Landslides and mudslides were also reported from the upper parts of Mansehra and other districts of Hazara Division. However, no loss of life or property was reported from any part of the division.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across Swat district brought a significant change in weather, turning it pleasant but also causing disruptions in daily life due to flash flooding in streams and drains.
In Mingora city, heavy downpours caused rainwater mixed with debris and waste to overflow onto roads, creating difficulties for commuters and disrupting traffic flow.In another incident in Saidu Sharif, a local stream overflowed following the intense rainfall, causing water to enter a mosque, shops, and several houses. The incident resulted in financial losses for residents of the affected areas.
Locals urged the authorities to take effective drainage measures and implement preventive arrangements to avoid similar damage in the future, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.
