Rawalpindi: Special sanitation operations have been launched across all tehsils of Rawalpindi district under the Clean Punjab Programme to ensure a clean environment for mourners during Muharram-ul-Haram and Ashura.
According to the RWMC spokesperson, sanitation staff, machinery officials and field supervisory teams have been mobilized to provide optimum cleanliness arrangements on the special instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and under the supervision of Managing Director Suthra Punjab Agency (SPA) Rawalpindi and Chief Executive Officer of the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC), Rana Sajid Safdar.
The operation covers Rawalpindi city as well as the tehsils of Gujar Khan, Kahuta, Kallar Syedan and Taxila, where cleaning, washing, timely disposal of waste and desilting of drains were underway at imambargahs, procession routes, venues of majalis and other public places.
Additional waste containers, waste bags and sanitation workers have also been deployed along the main and subsidiary procession routes to ensure the prompt disposal of garbage. SPA teams were conducting daily field monitoring, while a special control mechanism had been established to oversee the sanitation campaign and ensure effective implementation.
Additional manpower had also been deployed in all tehsils to carry out sweeping, washing and cleaning operations aimed at facilitating mourners during the holy month. He said providing a clean, safe and healthy environment to mourners during Muharram-ul-Haram remained the top priority of the agency.
He said a comprehensive sanitation plan was being implemented under the Suthra Punjab Programme to ensure effective cleanliness arrangements before, during and after processions and majalis across the district. "No negligence will be tolerated in the sanitation operation, and all concerned officers and staff are present in the field and performing their duties," he said.
