The recently concluded elections in Gilgit-Baltistan mark another important step in the region’s democratic journey. However, the true success of these elections will not be determined solely by the results, but by the new government’s ability to promote inclusive, people-centred governance. Gilgit-Baltistan is home to diverse communities with unique social and geographical challenges. The incoming administration should ensure that development projects and public resources are distributed fairly across all districts, with special attention to remote and underserved areas. There is also a need to move beyond short-term political debates and focus on issues that directly affect citizens. The peaceful participation of voters has demonstrated their confidence in the democratic process. It is now the responsibility of the elected leadership to honour that trust through transparency, accountability and practical governance.
