While the exponential adaptation of AI is celebrated as a technological turnover globally, the environmental hazards AI is creating are quite worrisome. Its growing energy appetite is placing unprecedented pressure on global natural resources. AI-driven data centres are consuming electricity, water and land at a higher level than some countries and substantially escalating carbon emissions. Unregulated AI infrastructure growth jeopardizes climate goals as temperatures and resource depletion rise.

Governments and tech firms must enforce precise standards, fund renewable computing and mandate transparent footprint reporting. Users must also comprehend that usage of digital conveniences can carry real environmental costs. If AI is handled responsibly, it does not need to be a threat. It all depends on how its growth is governed.
