KARACHI: Consul General of United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Karachi Dr Bakheet Ateeq Al Remeithi has directed implementation of special precautionary measures to protect workers during ongoing heatwave in the city.

Under the measures, work will remain suspended between 12:30pm and 3:00pm, while workers will be provided shaded rest areas, clean drinking water and necessary health and safety facilities to minimise effects of extreme temperatures.

The initiative comes as Karachi continues to experience intense heat, with rising cases of heat-related illnesses, including heatstroke, and increasing numbers of people seeking medical treatment at hospitals.

Dr Al Remeithi said protecting workers during severe weather conditions was a humanitarian and moral responsibility, reflecting UAE’s values of compassion, welfare and respect for human dignity.

He urged institutions and employers to adopt appropriate safety measures and prioritise wellbeing of workers during the prevailing heatwave.
