200 rounded up in Mirpur so far in action against banned JAAC

MIRPUR: At least 200 people have been rounded up so far in three districts of Mirpur Division in the ongoing crackdown on the banned Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).

Authorities told The News on Friday that the detainees were associated with the banned committee and were providing logistical support to its unlawful activities.

The law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) reportedly recovered sticks, empty glass bottles and other materials from the possession of suspects.

In Mirpur, a total of 116 persons have been detained by the law-enforcement agencies so far, Deputy Commissioner Sajid Aslam Chaudhry told this reporter.

Mirpur Division comprises Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber in south of Azad Jammu Kashmir.

Official sources said the law-enforcement agencies had accelerated operations across the region to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of lives and properties of citizens.

Police officials confirmed that the crackdown was continuing throughout AJK. In Islamgarh, authorities also apprehended 15 people for forcing people to shut down businesses and markets.
