ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members on Friday staged a strong protest in the National Assembly during the budget speech of Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.

The PTI MNAs resorted to sloganeering, leading to a scuffle. They gathered in front of the speaker’s dais and tore apart the copies of agenda of the day.

Meantime, as the PTI-supported MNA Shahid Khattak was stopped by a PMLN lawmaker, he got angry, leading to a scuffle with the PMLN MNAs Anjum Aqeel Khan and Kheal Das Kohistani, who were standing near the prime minister.

Security personnel, along with Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, intervened to ease the situation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif entered the House and was welcomed by government members through desk-thumping. The PTI lawmakers entered from the opposite side carrying placards and chanting slogans.

They continued their protest throughout the speech and staged a walkout from the House shortly before the finance minister concluded his address.
