KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab visited Spencer Eye Hospital, operated by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), and underwent a medical check-up by following the regular outpatient department (OPD) procedure like an ordinary citizen.

The mayor obtained an OPD slip like other patients, waited for his turn, and was examined by a doctor without any special protocol. Speaking on the occasion on Wednesday, he said the city’s administration was committed to ensuring that quality healthcare facilities were provided to every citizen without discrimination and on an equal basis.

“Restoring citizens’ trust in public institutions is our top priority, and practical steps are being taken to achieve this goal,” he said. He noted that the condition of Spencer Eye Hospital had been different in the past, but today the institution was gradually becoming a centre of public trust.

“I am also receiving treatment from the same hospital, which reflects the improvements being made in public-sector institutions,” he added.

The mayor said medical facilities, the availability of medicines, cleanliness, and modern medical equipment at the KMC hospitals would be further enhanced so that citizens could receive the best possible healthcare services. He said public assets were being developed along modern lines while ensuring their effective and transparent utilisation so that every citizen could benefit from these facilities.

“It is our responsibility to transform institutions funded through taxpayers’ money into genuine centres of public service, and all available resources are being utilized for this purpose,” he said.
