RAWALPINDI: The Special Court of Anti-Terrorism, Rawalpindi, adjourned the hearing of the November 26 protest till June 16 as the case appears heading for its final stages.

The case is being heard against 10 accused, including Aleema Khanum, sister of former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman. The prosecution also closed its case with regard to testimony and evidence.

On Wednesday, Aleema Khanum, her lawyer Faisal Malik and other accused appeared in the court. Special Prosecutor Zaheer Shah was also present. Aleema Khanum’s lawyer completed the cross-examination of two prosecution witnesses, including Investigation Officer Raja Iftikhar and Deputy Director PEMRA Nader Khan. In total, statements of 18 witnesses were recorded and cross-examined, while nine accused were issued a questionnaire under Section 342.

Aleema Khanum also received the Section 342 questionnaire, and the court granted the petitioners an extension till June 16. The defence counsel requested permission to present defence witnesses, upon which the court directed them to submit a formal request along with a list of witnesses.

In another case, the Special Anti-Terrorism Court, Rawalpindi, adjourned the hearing of 11 cases related to the May 9, 2024 riots till July 2 without further proceedings. Several suspects were present in court before the matter was adjourned to the same date.
