ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Wednesday said that the federal government should not put its responsibility on the provinces, insisting that under the 18th Amendment, they should get their due share in full.
“No one has borrowed as much as you [incumbent rulers] in the history of the country. Therefore, don’t put your responsibility on the federating units,” he emphasised while talking to the media at the Parliament House.
He maintained that the budget issue was not a political issue but a constitutional issue. He claimed that the federal government had failed in the last four years and had also failed the FBR so that it could not bring about reforms.
“You have not done institutional reforms, which has also affected the business community. No one has borrowed as much as you in the history of the country. The federal government should not put its responsibility on the provinces,” he made it clear. After the 18th Amendment, he pointed out, the provinces should get their share in full. “What you cannot do directly with regards to the NFC, you cannot do through any other means,” he contended.
With reference to the security situation, he also emphasised that “our defence against any enemy should be invincible; it is the responsibility of the federal government to fulfill the defence budget requirements and it should do so.”
