LAHORE:The City Traffic Police has announced a strict enforcement drive against underage drivers, unlicensed motorists, and unsafe motorcycle practices, including three-person riding on motorcycles.

According to CTO Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi, the operation will be carried out with zero tolerance, especially during holidays when violations are more common.Under the new enforcement measures, any driver under the age of 18 found operating a vehicle or motorcycle will face strict action.

This includes issuance of a challan, impounding of the vehicle, and a written undertaking from parents to prevent future violations. The CTO further stated that driving without a valid license will result in fines of Rs5,000 for cars and Rs2,000 for motorcycles. Learner permit holders are also prohibited from driving alone and must comply with supervision rules.

Strict action will also be taken against individuals found riding motorcycles with three passengers, a practice deemed highly dangerous for road safety. To facilitate citizens, special checkpoints will be set up near licensing centers to help unlicensed riders obtain driving licenses.

The CTO emphasised that underage driving and unlicensed driving will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and enforcement will continue to ensure public safety and reduce road accidents. Meanwhile, CTO Lahore Abdul Rahim Shirazi visited entry and exit checkpoints across the city late at night to review the ongoing crackdown on heavy traffic violations.

During a visit to the Gajjumata checkpoint, the CTO inspected vehicle checking procedures and enforcement of traffic regulations. According to traffic police, commercial vehicles lacking valid driving licenses, fitness certificates, or proper lighting systems are being barred from entering the city.

Shirazi said only commercial vehicles with complete legal documents will be allowed entry, warning that strict action will be taken against vehicles using high-beam lights or operating with defective or missing backlights.

He directed divisional and circle officers to personally supervise checkpoint operations and ensure strict enforcement of traffic laws, adding that no leniency will be shown to traffic violators.
