ISLAMABAD: The government will release two more installments of its fuel subsidy program this month, extending relief to public transport operators, motorcycle owners and small farmers to cushion the impact of higher fuel costs triggered by regional tensions and supply disruptions.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, who reviewed progress on the nationwide fuel relief scheme and directed authorities to strengthen oversight and coordination to ensure assistance reaches intended beneficiaries.

Officials told the meeting that four tranches of subsidies have already been disbursed over the past two months on a biweekly basis, while the fifth and sixth installments will be released in June as part of the ongoing rollout. Dar expressed satisfaction with the program’s implementation and emphasised greater transparency, accountability and cooperation with provincial governments.
