ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has convened a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) on June 8.
The prime minister will chair the meeting, which will be attended by federal ministers, chief ministers of all the four provinces, prime minister of Azad Kashmir and chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Sources said the NEC meeting will approve development budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 and review the country’s economic priorities for the coming year. The meeting had previously been scheduled for June 3 but was postponed to strike consensus with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
According to sources, the country’s Economic Survey is expected to be presented on June 9, providing a detailed review of economic performance during the current fiscal year.
Sources further said the National Assembly’s budget session will be held on Wednesday, June 10, at 5:00pm, while the Senate session will take place the same day at 6:00pm. Summaries for convening both the sessions have already been sent.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will present the federal budget in the National Assembly. The following day, June 11, the finance minister will address a post-budget press conference, where he will brief the media on the details of budget.
