LAHORE:The Punjab government has declared the case relating to the alleged sexual assault and subsequent death of a domestic worker a high-profile matter, prompting further scrutiny of the investigation.

The Prosecutor General Punjab has formally designated the case as high profile and summoned the investigating officer along with the complete record for review. Officials said the prosecution would provide guidance on the line of investigation and examine the charges, legal provisions and available evidence in detail.

The case relates to a domestic worker who died at a Lahore hospital following a reported abortion. A case had earlier been registered by Model Town Police.Meanwhile, investigators are also examining a second video statement attributed to the victim. According to police sources, the statement reportedly names a driver in connection with the incident and claims the employers were not involved.

The victim’s father, however, has challenged that account, alleging that an earlier statement absolving the employers was made under pressure. He has demanded a fresh and transparent investigation.

Police officials said the differing versions and changing stance of family members had added complexity to the case. They added that any inclusion of additional charges would be subject to legal requirements and court approval.Authorities said the investigation would continue in accordance with available evidence and due legal process.
