LAHORE:The 226th meeting of the Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB) of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ahsan Waheed Rathore. Addressing the meeting, Prof Rathore announced that UHS would soon launch new PhD programmes in Nursing, Public Health, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), and Oral Biology to further strengthen advanced research and specialised healthcare education in the country.
UHS VC informed the board that the university had awarded 45 PhD and 346 MPhil degrees during the last four years. Members of the ASRB acknowledged that this was the highest number of PhD graduates produced during the tenure of any Vice Chancellor in the history of UHS and appreciated the efforts of Prof Rathore in promoting research culture and academic excellence at the university.
During the meeting, the ASRB approved the award of PhD degrees in Forensic Sciences to Dr Zulfiqar Ali and Dr Nasreen Ishaque after successful completion and evaluation of their research work. Dr Zulfiqar conducted research on a nanohybrid sensing platform for estimation of vitreous humor potassium level in relation to determination of time since death in human cadavers, while Dr Nasreen Ishaque worked on development of an electrochemical nanosensor for estimation of time since death through biochemical analysis of vitreous humor.
Prof Rathore further stated that all curricula at UHS had been comprehensively revised in accordance with modern educational requirements and international standards to improve the quality of teaching, training, and assessment. The board also considered multiple cases related to thesis evaluation, appointment of examiners, and approval of research synopses for MD, MS, MDS, MPhil, and PhD programmes.
