A 25-year-old student allegedly died by suicide after shooting herself with her father’s licensed pistol at her residence in Defence Housing Authority, police said.

According to the police, the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Darakhshan Police Station in Khayaban-e-Shamsheer. The woman sustained critical injuries in the shooting and was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where she later succumbed to her wounds during treatment.

The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Sakina, daughter of Qarar Ahmed. The police stated that Sakina was a student and that her father is a retired Customs officer. According to preliminary investigations, the woman had reportedly been reprimanded by her parents over domestic matters. Investigators believed she subsequently locked herself in a room and used her father’s licensed weapon to shoot herself.

After completing legal formalities, the police handed over the body to the family for burial. Investigators added that further inquiries were underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
