Police have arrested a man accused of murdering his father in Karachi’s Marri Goth area and attempting to paint the crime as an attack by unidentified assailants.
According to police, the incident occurred on May 24 within the jurisdiction of the Bin Qasim police station where a man identified as Lutf Ali, son of Ghulam, was killed during what was initially reported as an attack by unidentified suspects.
Acting on technical and investigative leads, police arrested the victim’s son, identified as Atif, son of Lutf Ali. The investigators said the suspect allegedly attacked his father with a knife, inflicting fatal injuries that resulted in his death at the scene. Police claimed the suspect later attempted to mislead the investigators by staging the incident as a murder committed by unidentified individuals.
According to police, another son of the deceased, Kashif Ali, was out of the city at the time of the incident and returned to Karachi after being informed of his father’s death. During the preliminary questioning, family members disclosed that the killing stemmed from a domestic dispute. Further investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly planned the murder in advance and purchased the knife before the Eid.
Police said the victim tried to defend himself and stop the attack, but the suspect allegedly continued stabbing him repeatedly, causing fatal injuries. Investigators stated that the accused had confessed to the crime during interrogation.
