Zone South Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Asad Raza chaired a meeting on Monday to review security and administrative arrangements for the coming Muharram-ul-Haram across Karachi’s South Zone.

The meeting was attended by the SSPs of South, City and Keamari police districts, representatives of the Sindh Rangers, office-bearers of the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen and Jafaria Alliance, Shia religious scholars, organisers of religious gatherings and processions, and officials from the traffic police, Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU), K-Electric and other relevant agencies.

During the meeting, the participants conducted a detailed review of security and administrative arrangements for the central Muharram processions and religious gatherings. Discussions focused on parking arrangements, entry and exit points, route permits, uninterrupted electricity supply, availability of female searchers, BDU deployment and other key operational matters.

Special attention was given to the security strategy for three major Muharram processions. The South DIG assured the participants that security arrangements would be more effective and comprehensive this year compared to previous years.

He said modern digital surveillance systems and advanced technology would be utilised to monitor the central processions, while separate and detailed security plans were being prepared for each major procession to address any potential threats.

The DIG further stated that all security and administrative measures for religious gatherings and processions would be strengthened through close coordination among the district administration, law enforcement agencies and relevant departments.

To facilitate mourners and enhance security, the number of female searchers would be increased, and additional personnel and resources would be provided to the BDU, DIG Raza said.

He added that strict checking procedures, enhanced monitoring and comprehensive security measures would be implemented at all entry and exit points of the processions to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for the mourners during Muharram.
